It was my pleasure to meet Marrett Green through Haro Park Centre last week. As I arrived to teach painting, I found the kitchen area full of fragrant flowers and the floor scattered with colourful petals. The room was full of smiling faces. Donated flowers were being arranged for resale. The process gave much joy to both the residents and staff. Profits support homeless, recovering or otherwise marginalized people in Canada. But it doesn’t stop there! It’s also a composting project with multiple benefits to charities, homeless and the environment. Events including an Evening Art Gala at the Gallery Gachet have also be held. And this all started because one man, Mr. Green, saw a homeless fellow selling flowers that were perhaps from someone’s garden and asked himself “How can I help him?”. Then he actually answered the question. He started The Canadian Flowers for Food Society and in turn has helped everyone. Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Green.
