Get Your Pecha Kucha On!

Whether you’re in Dubai, Amsterdam or Istanbul you can attend a Pecha Kucha Night. It’s a social scene as much as it is a place to be inspired and connect with like minds.

Pecha Kutcha started in Tokyo over four years ago and is now in more than 120 cities. It’s a live form of entertainment where creative people share slide show presentations (20 slides in about 7 minutes). Sound like a good idea? In the information age where live interaction isn’t favored, I thought so.

Pecha Kucha came to Vancouver for the first time earlier this year. It was held at the Vancouver Museum and was a sold out show. The presentations were hit and miss. If you go make sure you get your tickets in advance or be prepared to pay about $15 to sit on the floor in another room watching a projection of the show. Hm… not quite the same. Not really good value. Not impressive. It seems to me Pecha Kucha should be free anyway. Despite a somewhat rocky start, I still think it’s a great idea and would encourage anyone to check it out. It was a fun night, I met some interesting people and learned a few new things. So, go get your Pecha Kucha ready. The next one is expected in the Fall.
